July Member Spotlight: Hunter Ralston
Hunter Ralston is a busy college student but has made time the past 4 years to work out at mission FITNESS whenever she can. She attends the University of Tennessee at Martin and is studying Psychology. Hunter comes from a very active family. Her brother is a collegiate swimmer and lacrosse player and her parents compete in triathlons, half marathons, and are training for their first full marathon. Hunter trains with her parents and often does long runs with them. Hunter was on the equestrian team at school and was a 2-year captain of the team. They are a Division 1 school that competes in the NCEA (National Collegiate Equestrian Association). Her biggest accomplishment for riding this year was honorable mention All American. Not only does Hunter kill it in sports but she excels in academics as well. She received a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. In 2013-2014 she received the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. The OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll is presented annually to student-athletes who have at least a 3.25 GPA. Hunter also received the Intercollegiate Athletics Student Athlete Award for Equestrian at Honors Day, which is a combination of community service, academics, and being a strong asset to your athletic team. As if academics and riding didn't keep her busy enough, she is also the President for Letters in Motion, which is a non-profit organization that deals with the care and construction of orphanages worldwide. Hunter recently went on a trip to Nepal and one of their goals was to bring 3,000 handwritten letters of encouragement to the orphans in Nepal. It was Hunter's job to get these letters written. She helped get over 3,000 letters written and about 12 different universities involved. In Nepal they visited 8 different orphanages and handed letters out at each. It warmed her heart to see how excited the kids were to not only receive the letter, but also read it and show it to their siblings. "MF has given me a whole new definition to workouts. I am challenged every time I attend a class. These classes aren't your traditional lifting or workout CD. No two classes are alike which keeps it exciting. I also love that any level of athlete can do these classes. You shouldn't be intimidated if you are just starting on your journey to be fit, and you shouldn't be bored if are an exceptional athlete. Most importantly, it is a friendly environment that encourages you to be your absolute best. I love going to class and seeing people I raced with that past weekend, or with someone who is deciding they are doing their first triathlon. The environment makes the workout that much better for me."
